Pocahontas Campground - Jasper National Park, AB

Our first view of the Rockies
It's another fairly short day, about 350 km to Jasper, about 3 or 4 hours, so we dawdled: an hour for lunch, a stop to take pictures of our first view of the Rockies, and a little shopping trip to pick up steaks and potato chips so we could properly celebrate July 4th with a cook-out. It has rained off and on for the whole time we have been traveling.  So the mosquitoes have been fairly fierce.  As a rule, Deb guides me as I back into a site, especially when there are trees around.  In the two minutes it took, she was overcome with mosquitoes.  Once settled in, she realized that we had no internet and that we needed to go for a short walk.  As luck would have it,  a short way back down the road was a short hiking loop at Pocahontas Mine, with some internet access.  After our short walk, and a few downloads, we returned to the campsite...Deb says, "You don't need any help backing in, do you?"  I cooked the steaks on the BBQ, while Deb stayed inside and cooked some potatoes.  Then we watched a movie.  So far she has not stepped outside since those initial two minutes.

Today is a "stay here day."  We are planning to do a little hike with the dog, get some lunch in Jasper, and see where it goes from there.

  1. Mosquitoes can spoil a good time outside. You almost need a net like they have for bees.
