Big Creek Campground - Yukon Territory

Watson Lake Sign-post Forest
We continued our drive through the Yukon (I just wanted to be able to say that once in my life!).  Now that we are over the Rockies, it's fairly straight with wide curves.  The big city, only 227 km away is Watson Lake (2 gas stations) and the home of the sign-post forest.  It all started in 1942 with a single sign some guy put up with the distance and direction to his house, it has morphed over the years into over 82,000 signs of every type imaginable, from stolen "Welcome to _______ Population ____" to signs made from Scrabble Pieces.  Afterwards, we did our obligatory internetting before heading out.

Homemade corn chowder and cornbread
Our concern for the day was the fact that the campground that I had selected for the evening had no reservation and only 12 sites.  We decided to get there early to give us the best chance to snag a site.  We arrived at about 2:00 and were the only ones there, so we got the most gorgeous site, right next to the creek.  Unfortunately, about 10 minutes later, it started to pour.  With no internet, no phone, no radio, no TV, no satellite radio....Deb thought it would fun to cook something.  We have a pretty good pantry in the RV, but no oven (we used to have a Microwave/Convection Oven but it never really worked very well).  So we made skillet cornbread and the corn chowder with some corn on the cob that we happened to have in the bottom of the fridge.   On the side was a pear salad. It was a lovely dinner with candles and soft music, followed by a forgettable movie (we bought out the special bin at Walmart, back in Hinton).

Tomorrow it's off to Whitehorse, the largest city in the Yukon.  BTW, the campground did fill up by 6pm!
