Kiptopeke State Park

Our last day.  At the southern tip of the eastern shore, we stopped at Kiptopeke State Park, VA.  This was a nice lunch spot.  Before the Bay Bridge was constructed, this was the ferry location.  Now it's a lovely park and fishing area.  The reef is made up of old WWII cargo ships, 9 in total make up the reef.  Looks very interesting and is now home for lots of wildlife.

Janes Island State Park, MD

Because we had to cut our trip short by a day, I ended up with reservations at two places for the same night (we're making reservations because it's Columbus Day weekend).  As we're leaving the campsite this morning, Deb asks, "Did you cancel the reservations at the first site?" No? She gives me that pained look.  Ouch!

As we're driving down US13, I see a sign for Janes Island SP, where I was suppose to cancel.  Should I suggest we stop for lunch, or let sleeping dogs lie? We decide to go for lunch.  The place is gorgeous, we have a site right at the marina, A-51(E).  Deb makes a delicious spinach salad, while I use my Maryland Senior Pass to carve $15 off the camp fee. We've decided to spend the night!

After lunch, we rent a canoe and paddle all around Janes Island.  It's a long trip, but very scenic, going through the marshes.  Tonight, we are planning on having our end of trip campfire...Deb has marshmallows secretly stashed for the occasion..

Tomorrow, we pay the piper with an extra 100 miles to make up for never leaving our lunch stop.

Trap Pond State Park

Today's total driving was 28 miles, and we were getting the remnants of big storms that pounded the Midwest and the Northeast.  It was just a nice rainy day with nothing to do...so we talked about combining our Facebook post and our paper log to make a blog...what else would we talk about?.  The rest of the day was spent mostly playing with the blog and snacking until the rain stopped.  Then we went on a short hike including a walk through a frisbee golf course.  Our first night in Delaware...  E/W - site D14, right next to the pond.

Assateague Island National Park

It was only a 2 mile drive from our last night, but took a left turn, by the Green Turtle., down to the end of the road. (Will there be a turn around place?) It was all OK ... lunch (date night for older people) at Sunset Grill.  Absolutely fabulous... Pork Goulash for me and  Fish and Chips for her ladyship.
Night on the bayside in B25...(a no generator) dry camping loop.  We made it through the night with 70% of our batteries left, but we not allowed ourselves  30 minutes of TV.  Walked on, possibly, the largest Boardwalk in the world.  Even though the rain was pouring, and mosquitos were biting and the prickers were digging into our skin, we managed to make it back in time for happy hour

Assateague Island State Park, MD

We stayed at Assateague Island State Park, Maryland.  Site H21 with electric.  Good beach access.  The wild ponies were wonderful.  But wild.  They bite, kick and charge if bothered!  So, we kept drex on a leash, except on the beach!  Drex found his own wild animals.
Skeleton of a horseshoe crab.

Stay'n put at First Landing

It's our second day here at First Landing. We spent the morning hiking on the bay side.  We walked about 5 miles with Drex panting much of the way.   As the song says, "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."  We recovered on the beach enjoying a gorgeous day

San Antonio, Tx

So, reality sets in every once in awhile... We needed a laundry stop, so we found an RV park with a laundromat in San Antonio. Deb said that she wanted real Mexican food ( she actually said in Oregon) so went to the Riverwalk, ate Mexican food and wandered around... Wow ... What a cool place.... You could eat in a different place every night for a year!

Santa Cruz, CA

Apparently, I have not been threatening enough, because way too many people knew about Deb's surprise birthday present for me, and nobody told me. I have always wanted to zip-line. Deb arranged a zip-line experience going though the redwood canopy outside Santa Cruz. What a rush! I would
do it again, in a heart beat...that is if my heart ever starts beating again!

Crater Lake National Park, OR

Crater Lake in southern Oregon. Narrow roads with no guard rails and thousand foot drops. The lake is suppose to be the deepest in the US, and the cleanest since no streams run into it. It's filled with rainwater and snow melt.

Lake Easton State Park, WA

We have completed the first leg of our journey - in Bellevue, WA. Last night we stayed in Coeur D'Alene, dining in a wonderful floating restaurant. Today we lunched at Lake Easton State Park with a salad made from some of central Washington's finest produce. Drex, of course, decided to forgo lunch for a nice brisk swim.

Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park, MT

The plan was to go for a hike, BBQ some Montana beef, and roast marshmallows on a campfire. Then it started to rain... the hike didn't happen, the campfire didn't happen. Nothin' adds to the sizzle on a good steak like a little rain. Spending the night at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park near Whitehall, MT. Site P002, no utils.

(Tonight's excitement - I was sipping my glass of when when I realized the I had just sipped a bug, except it was really a yellow jacket that in protest, bit my lip)

Great Dismal Swamp Trip May 4-7

Well the dog was exhausted, but we had a great time in the Great Dismal Swamp. We canoed at Merchant Mill Pond in North Carolina, as we were deciding whether or not to turn around, the clouds darkened. Even the alligators noticed, so we headed back, got back to the RV just as it started to rain. Nothing like sitting under the awning, watching the rain fall with a nice glass of grape juice ( no alcohol allowed ;o)
— at Merchants Millpond State Park.

Finally got my campfire!
